Delonte West of the Cleveland Cavaliers faces up to 18 years in federal prison. More charges have been assessed to his already bizarre case stemming from his Sept. 17 arrest.

One thing is certain: Delonte has more important things to worry about than whether or not LeBron James will be his teammate in 2010-11.

The LA Times reports:

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West was indicted Tuesday on additional weapons and traffic charges stemming from his Sept. 17 arrest for speeding on a motorcycle and carrying multiple weapons. The eight-count indictment sheds no new light on why West, 26, was riding a motorcycle on the Capital Beltway in Prince George’s County, Md., at 10 p.m. with two loaded handguns and a loaded shotgun. Prosecutors added an 8 1/2 -inch Bowie knife to the list of concealed weapons West was carrying.

Seriously, who does Delonte West think he is?

Maybe he thinks he’s Mad Max, living in a futuristic destitute world were people fully armed to the teeth ride around motorcycles, killing and fighting for gasoline, amongst other things.

The only thing Delonte West has in his favor is a well-documented history of mental illness. Which, when you think about it deeply, makes you cringe when you think about what possibly could have gone wrong in a worse-case scenario that evening.

These facts do bode well in helping him avoid imprisonment, but federal mandatory minimum penalties might supersede any form of legal defense, making him the latest athlete since Plaxico Buress to do hard time for hard crime.

Maybe he and his legal counsel can implement the”Mad Max” defense?

According to cleveland.com more incidents occuring on the court are not helping West: On top of his bipolar disorder, West has anger management issues. He’s had trouble with officials in the past.
