In this edition of NBA Lookalike Morphing we compare Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle to comedic actor Jim Carrey. This was requested by loyal PTP reader Gerald Liu. Thanks Gerald, keep ‘em coming!

Rick Carlisle’s coaching lineage spans from a championship as a player on the 1986 Celtics as a reserve to being mentored by the likes of Chuck Daly and P.J. Carlesimo. Jim Carrey’s acting career started off as a stand up comedian in Canada.

After coaching under Chucky Daly in New Jersey and Larry Bird in Indiana, Carlisle landed a head coaching job in Detroit where he led the Pistons to consecutive 50-32 seasons. He was named coach of the year in 2002.

After Detroit fired him, he returned to Indiana to assume the head coach position.

Carlisle is now patrolling the sidelines in Dallas, and his team is off to a 25-12 start. You can catch Carlisle making all sorts of faces and gestures on the sidelines when arguing calls, or displaying signs of disbelief due to the lackluster play or momentary lapse in sound judgment by his Mavericks.

It is in these moments where you can catch the behavioral likeness to his lookalike morphing counterpart, actor Jim Carrey.

Jim Carrey is a zany, eclectic actor known for his unique acting. A style of animated and sometimes contorted body and facial expressions. Carrey uses his style combined with hilarious voice manipulation to set himself apart from his acting genre constituents.

Jim Carrey made his way to Los Angeles form his native Canada in the early 80s, and after working the comedy circuit for most of the 80s, an in 1989 broke through in the sketch comedy show In Living Color. From this point on, Carrey ultimately went on to produce blockbuster comedys such as Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and many more.

Carrey and Carlisle both spent the early parts of their respective careers paying their dues, and eventually emerged into the spotlight. Not only do they share similarity in their career path, but you have to admit, they look quite a bit alike.

It has been awhile since we have published a Lookalike Morphing. We apologize, but with so much going on, we have had to put them on the back burner, unless of course the requests come in, in which case we will always squeeze ‘em in. Special thanks to reader Adam for suggesting we morph Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards with actor Jesse Martin of the famous television show Law & Order. Ironic, no?

Jesse Martin is a theatre, film, and television actor. He started his career on stage with the role of Tom Collins in Rent, but is most widely known and accomplished as hard-nosed Detective Ed Green in the NBC series Law & Order. He played this role from 1999 to 2008.

Much like Arenas, Martin’s role is a detective who share characteristics: savvy and street-smart. With partner Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach), Detective Green hits the streets to find the facts and solve crimes. They are on top of their game, so to speak. They sniff out the truth.

Good thing for Arenas Detective Green is an actor, and cannot use his make believe skills to investigate during the Gilbert Arenas probe.

Gilbert Arenas, if you didn’t know, is the star point guard of the Washington Wizards. His team is located in D.C., the symbolic and ironic heartland of “Law & Order.”  Laws are born here.

Arenas case has the recipe that adheres to the Law and Order script protocol:

• Arenas initially tried to cover up the truth by lying about his alibi. This never looks good. He should ask Monta Ellis about honesty.
• He possibly faces jail time if this goes bad. Sure Arenas didn’t pull a “Plaxico Burress,” but he brought the guns into the locker room, while he was on the job. Ouch.
• Someone knows what really happened in the locker room. The probe will uncover this person, and then we will know what happened.
• If Arenas and the law get ugly with each other,he has a lot to lose. His contract might be voided. If it turns out he knowingly lied to attempt a cover up, the law issues strict justice.

When healthy, Arenas is an elite level player. He combines with Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler to make up the Wizards “big three” in D.C. It has been shaky for Washington in this season for Arenas and his teammates, and this is the kind of distraction that could light the fuse that results in roster fire sales and rebuilding.

Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns shares resemblances with multiple celebrities. We wanted to morph him, but alas, we could not find that “one” perfect fit to complete the morphing.  Four people lead us into an ensuing editorial debate as to whom actually resembled Nash most.

The first three candidates are singers/musicians James Blunt, Liam Gallagher of Oasis, and Tom Petty. The fourth and final candidate is the character Walter Kovacs aka Rorschach from the film Watchmen, played by Jackie Earle Haley.

After much litigation on the issue, we had come to a dead end. All candidates had striking attributes presenting far too strong an argument to disqualify any of them. The solution?

Morph all of them! Make NBA Lookalike Morphing #14 a compound morphing.

But how do we do this? How can we do this fairly and without bias? Simple. We used the scientific method.

Purpose:

Morphing all 4 candidates into 1 composite “morphing” candidate that will almost identically resemble Steve Nash. We have given this composite entity the name “Liam James Petty-Kovacs.”

Hypothesis:

We expect that the participants in the poll will vote towards a majority trend determining that our composite “Liam James Petty-Kovacs” resembles Steve Nash. Voting  trends should overwhelmingly favor that “Liam James Petty-Kovacs” and Steve Nash do in fact look alike.

Materials:

We placed images of both Nash and each individual candidate side by side,  in order to highlight the attributes each candidate  individually shares with Steve Nash. Here is what we came up with.

James Blunt – Main attributes of similarity: Nose, hair, cheeks, chin, and eyes.

We like to think James Blunt represents the sensitive, high-pitch-singing, feminine and sensitive sides of Nash.

Liam Gallagher – Main attributes of similarity: Forehead, eyebrows, Jawline, Brit Pop hairstyle, and cock-eyes.

Liam represents the rugged rock n’ roll side of Steve Nash. This is the side of Steve Nash you would not want to piss off at the pub.

Tom Petty – Main attributes of similarity: Pretty much everything except Petty has blond hair and rocks the sh*t out of the guitar.

This would also be associated with the laid back, “it’s all good because I am Tom Petty and smoke tons of marajuana” side of Steve Nash. Of course, Steve Nash does not smoke marajuana. But if he did, a young “heartbreaking” Tom Petty would be a dead ringer for Nash.

Walter Kovacs aka Rorschach – Main attributes of similarity: Everything but the hair and ears.

This character represents Nash’s toughness; however, Nash does not have the psychopathic blood lust of his counterpart comparison. We all witnessed this toughness when Nash received a gash to his nose. While bleeding everywhere, he was determined to return into the game vs. the San Antonio Spurs during the 2007 playoffs.

Procedure:

We started by morphing Liam Gallagher and Walter Kovacs aka Rorschach into a composite morphing named “Rorschach Gallagher” (below, left).

We then proceeded to morph James Blunt and Tom Petty together. We named this composite product “James Petty” (above, right).

Taking things one step further, for the sake of science,  we morphed “James Petty” with “Rorschach Gallagher” to create the aforementioned “Liam James Petty-Kovacs.”

We felt this would adequately represent all four of the celebrities’ attributes for comparative morphing with Steve Nash.

We now present to you the fruits of our scientific labor for you, the reader, to decide the fate of this experiment.

Our reader Stacio again submitted a gem of a recommendation for our latest installment of the morphing series. After researching images, we found that the similarities Chris “Birdman” Anderson and Gary Busey share are indeed worthy of a morphing. Thanks Stacio, as soon as we have PTP t -shirts, we will make sure to ship you one!

The beauty of this morphing is that both “morphees” have a feel good story regarding their careers. Both Busey and Anderson are colorful, eclectic people who allow their emotions and feelings to be seen and heard. In Anderson’s case, sometimes even felt by a violent blocked shot.

A younger BUsey and Birdman look a lot alike!

Lets start with Gary Busey.

Actor Gary Busey has had a long, famed acting career spanning several decades.

After suffering head trauma during a motorcycle accident in 1988, it appeared that his career had been derailed.  He was not wearing a helmet, and suffered a fractured skull.

The result of this fractured skull caused long term affects that disabled certain mental “filters” causing Busey to speak and act out impulsively.

“Busey-isms” have been born as a result:

One cannot put a price on the entertainment Busey brings to the table. It makes me yearn for more people to reduce their personal filter threshold.

Chris “Birdman” Anderson has had a long and checkered past. The NBA expelled him for 2 years on January 25, 2006 for violating the leagues banned substance policy.

This was not your typical case of NBA player tests positive for marijuana. This was more like a Roy Tarpley type of hard drug abuse story.

To this day, Anderson will not tell anyone publicly what substances he was using.

Two years later, after putting his personal demons beside him, The Birdman was reinstated by the league. After being released by New Orleans, Anderson was quick to sign with the Denver Nuggets.

Birdman finished the 2008-09 season ranked 2^nd in the league in blocks with 2.42 a game. He did so in only 20.5 minutes per contest, which pretty much justifies his 5 year incentive based, back end deal he signed with the Nuggets this off season. He did a great job of turning both his life and career around.

Both of these guys overcame major obstacles in their careers. Both of these guys are outspoken, vivid personalities, and their performances can be considered a form of art.

For our first post of the week, we thank a recommendation given to us by Jason from Los Angeles. He recommended we take Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics and morph him together with the legendary Beetlejuice from The Howard Stern Show’s Wack Pack.

These guys are far apart on the similarity spectrum. Paul Pierce is 6’7” and is a professional athlete.

Beetle is 4’3”, and lets just say we have not seen him busting out with any sky soaring slamdunks.

However, both men share the fact that they are entertainers.

Pierce lets his success on the court do most of the talking for him, averaging 22.9 points per game over his 11-year NBA career and is a 7-time NBA All-Star. He boasts a plethora of moves to the rim. He nails his free throws. Being a true inside out threat, he can ice the 3 as well. Paul Pierce is an overall dominant player.

Beetlejuice dominates the airwaves and television sets appearing regularly on the legendary Howard Stern show. Beetle has his own song, titled “This Is Beetle”. It has been covered from major recording acts such as Blues Traveler and Staind. After  an agreement was made between CBS, Stern, and Sirius, The show has retained the rights to use it again.

Writing this piece has skewed my view on Paul Pierce forever. NBA All star and Champion fame aside, all I can see now is Beetlejuice. It is crazy after putting these guys side by side, then morphing them , how bizarrely similar these guys appear to one another.

To be completely honest, after doing this, I can never look at Paul Pierce the same way. All I see now is Beetlejuice. I am considering buying tickets to watch the Celtics play so I can shout at Pierce and call him Beetlejuice.

One word can describe the way I feel after doing this: creepy.

Jason, should I be thanking you for this recommendation, or should my therapist be thanking you after I write this? After all, I foresee therapy as the only avenue for removing the visions of Beetle when I see Paul Pierce.

This morphing is accredited to the infamous mouth of Hall of Famer Charles Barkley.

Barkley has experienced more than his share of being made fun of, so he never holds back when dishing it out.

Sir Charles nicknamed Oden Benjamin Button, the main character from the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, during while hosting TNT’s Inside the NBA.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button: a baby boy born as an old man who slowly grows younger as he ages.

Barkley applied the film’s concept onto Oden, nicknaming him Benjamin Button,  because he and many others have commented that Oden looks far older than his 21 years should suggest.

The Benjamin Button namesake has stuck, and many internet posts have surfaced, coming up with funny one liners, this one being my absolute favorite:

Bringing you yet another NBA morphing, it is one is freakishly a no brainer comparison.

One is Italian. One is American born of Italian decent.

They are athletic.  However, Belinelli’s achievements in the NBA are the only feats that are actually real.

Seriously.... Are you kidding me?

Perhaps the song, “The eye of the Tiger” can make people lose sight of this fact.

Due to difference in age, one could theoretically buy into the thought that Marco Belinelli is the long lost son of Sylvester Stallone.

Belinelli has shown signs of breakout potential in short stints on the floor during his first two years in Golden State. His play should only improve as his future with the Toronto Raptors begins this year, it is certain he will experience massive growth in minutes.

Stallone on the other hand, has been on the other end of the career spectrum for quite some time. He was a huge success as an action actor for the better part of the mid 70s, 80s, and a little bit even so still in the early 90s

It is safe to say his career was in the dumps around the time of the Judge Dredd premier, circa de 1995.

He did make comeback attempts during 2006-2008 with more installments of the legendary Rocky and Rambo film franchises. It is rumored that Rambo V is currently in preproduction as this morphing is being published.

Fortunately for us, Marco Belinelli is only dipping his feet into his potential, and Raptors fans will be grateful if his contributions get Toronto back into the playoff hunt. They can look at plays like this, and start drooling:

Protect the Paint reader Stacio again submitted another gem comparison for our 9^th installment of NBA Look-Alike Morphing: Dirk Nowitzki vs. Barry Pepper.

Stacio, thank you once again!

Dirk Nowitzki is one of the most dominant players in all of basketball. He can shoot, drive, and at 7’0” is one of the most multi-dimensional big men in the game.

It is a looming question as to whether or not Dirk’s Mavericks will ever have another chance to make it to the finals, but regardless of that happens or not, no one can dispute his amazing career.

As Dirk Nowitzki enters his 11^th season he is still on top of his game and considered a top tier superstar by both his critics and his peers.

Barry Pepper is not equivocally a superstar of his field of acting comparatively to Nowitzki and basketball, but he is still quite distinguished.

You might remember him as the Christian sniper in Saving Private Ryan, or recognize him portraying Roger Maris in Billy Crystal’s 61. He is frequently being cast in movies, and has a polished career in many different roles.

Regardless of his star or non-star status, Barry Pepper is similar to Dirk in that he is a solid contributor to any film he is involved with. He is a perfect teammate for an acting production. He never hams it up, and never tries to steal the show.

Installment number 8 of our NBA Look-Alike Morphings takes one of the more colorful players in the league, Matt Barnes of the Orlando Magic, combining him with notorious bad-boy Steve-O from Jackass. Special thanks to Stacio in Los Angeles for bringing this to our attention. Cheers Stacio!

It is quite hysterical that Barnes’ morphing partner is also quite colorful. Actualy, these guys have quite a few many similarities.

Both Barnes and Steve-O have spent a decent portion of their lives taking the long road to finding success. Also, both men have to be extraordinarily athletic for their profession. Both men have ridiculous amounts of tattoos all over their bodies.

The main difference being between them would be the years of alcohol and drug abuse that Steve-O would partake in preparation for his stunts.

Barnes was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 46th overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft. He was then traded that summer to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but was cut in October.

He has played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Phoenix Suns averaging  prior to signing with Orlando this summer.

Steve -O was born and raised in England before migrating to the States. He eventually attended the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. After not being invited to join the Circus, he later dropped out of college to begin filming his own stunts.

This amateur beginning eventually led to smashing success for Steve-O as he starred in the television series Jackass and its blockbuster feature length spin-offs, Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two and Jackass 2.5.

Both men have been tattooed up, traveled over long stretches of miles, and years, to get where they are today.

For our 7^th installment of NBA Look-Alike Morphings we are responding to an email written by reader Kevin Kleimo. After considering his request, we decided to morph Stuckey with 50 Cent. He also mentioned Kanye West, but we felt Kanye was better suited for Baron Davis.

That morphing will be coming soon…..

Hmmmm, twins?

Even before the morphing, these guys look a lot alike. Just look at this picture  for a few seconds, and it becomes rather apparent that this morphing is definitely on point with the “look alike” aspect of the morphing process.

I wanna make 50 Cent money!

Rodney Stuckey is a rising star for the rebuilding Detroit Pistons. Now that elder statesmen Billups, Wallace, and McDyess have departed, the weight of the Pistons future is being placed on Stuckey.

Stuckey is making decent cash as an NBA baller, and will be playing for a larger contract this season while earning $1.8 Million dollars this year.

However, his counterpart in this morphing has him flat out beaten when it comes to the big bucks. When we say beaten, we mean as in he could hypothetically buy the Pistons if he chose to.

Curtis James Jackson III aka 50 Cent has gone from slinging drugs to slinging over 21 million copies of his records. He currently owns his own record label, G-Unit Records.

He has something similar to the Midas touch.  50 has appeared in a few major motion pictures, and is quite the entrepreneur,  having launched ventures in anything ranging from Vitamin Water to condoms.

Everything he is involved with is ultimately quite successful.
