Leon Powe officially signed a two-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers worth $1.7 million. The Cavs add a clutch player who delivers tough inside scoring and tenacious rebounding. Powe will add to the depth chart in Cleveland and bring championship experience to the Cavs.

Boston couldn’t stick with Powe due to ACL and micro-fracture surgery. As the window for championship contention is closing the Celtics current roster needs healthy players right now.

You can’t blame the Celtics. Given the age of the Kevin Garnett (33), Ray Allen (34), and Paul Pierce (31), having a player shelved for half a year is not realistically helpful for their goals.

The Celtics signed Rasheed Wallace, re-signed Glen “Big Baby” Davis, and picked up Sheldon Williams for pennies on the dollar. Thus there is no longer breathing room for player-team loyalty.

Powe ironically signed with one of the Celtics’ biggest rivals.

Furthermore, he’s quite accomplished at having clutch, monstrous games. He was a one man wrecking crew against the Lakers during game 2 the 2008 NBA Finals.  He ended up with 21, literally shocking the world while becoming an NBA fan favorite.

Seriously. How funny would it be if Powe steps in after half a season during the Eastern Conference finals only to hand the Celtics the knock out blow?

I am  a huge fan of Leon Powe. I really hope he comes back healthy, forcefully, and making every member of the Boston Celtics regret not bringing back the kid who won them Game 2 of the NBA Finals in 2008.
