The New Orleans Hornets fired Byron Scott today. General Manager Jeff Bower was named as the interim head coach, with Tim Floyd as his main assistant.

This comes to little surprise to me, and we mentioned this would be a good idea a few days back while discussing the poor performances in the Hornets 3-6 start this season.

Scott was NBA Coach of the Year in 2008.

Will Byron Scott’s dismissal help the Hornets turn things around?

Most likely it won’t in the immediate future, however, it is a change in the right direction long term. The Hornets need to embrace Chris Paul, and let him do his thing. This is the only way they will return to the top of  the West.

With Scott and his Princeton offense out of the way, it will be interesting to see how Chris Paul can inspire his team playing a new breed of up-tempo Hornets basketball.

More fast breaks, less half court sets, and an overall utilization of Paul’s strengths will make the remainder of this year a complete unknown as far as results, but man will it be fun to watch Chris Paul unleashed.
