Stephon Marbury is reportedly heading to China to play for the Chinese Basketball Association for the Shanxi Zhongyu 山西中宇 basketball club.

The plan for Shanxi Zhingyu  山西中宇 is that Marbury’s arrival will not only move up the table from ranking 15^th out of 17 teams in addition to  filling the stands with bodies and boosting tickets sales.

Marbury is planning to promote his athletic apparel line, Starbury, within China. It is hard to imagine the Starbury brand competing with Nike, Adidas, and Li Ning. But then again, he has not appeared to be very sane over the past 6 months.

On that note,  how will the Chinese handle Marbury’s craziness? He will likely have a translator, but how in the world will the translator make sense of the gibberish he speaks using quasi English? Is it even translatable into a foreign language like Chinese? Imagine a translator’s confused look when he says something like this:

What sort of tactic would a translator use to not only cover up his insanity while at the same time preserve his job? How long will Starbury last before his crazy, bewildered behavior freak out the Shanxi Zhongyu organization to a point where 15th place sounds retrospectively more appealing?

How long can Marbury take not being able to ustream his madness due to the “Great Firewall of China” preventing him access on the web? There are far too many questions looming to see this venture having a successful outcome for Marbury. Since his chances of landing with an NBA team are a moot point, this is one of his only options.

From a business perspective, taking his Starbury line to the worlds largest market, in a crazy way, that is not a bad idea. But is it crazy enough to work? Or is he just too crazy to be marketable at this point?
