Chris Paul and the Hornets Need Help
Chris Paul is finding his Hornets off to an abysmal start this season at 1-3. Their most recent defeat was to the New York Knicks. Yeah, the New York Knicks.
Rajon Rondo was overheard telling Paul the following: “I’ve got a ring, and you’re never gonna win one.”
Although Paul states there is nothing to be worried about, things look like they are not getting any better for the Hornets anytime soon.
The much-ballyhooed trade of Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor has failed thus far to invigorate the New Orleans Hornets. Chandler might not look as good as Okafor does on paper, but there is an obvious void of intensity on the New Orleans roster that he provided.
Chandler provided an emotional lift that Okafor does not possess. It does not show up in the stat sheet, but Chandler’s influence on his team and ability to reject shots alters the strategies of opponents.
Starting Julian Wright and moving Peja Stojakovic to the bench was supposed to strengthen the Hornets second unit in addition to toughening the defensive unit to start games. The result has been less than spectacular. Stojakovic is a shell of his former self, and although he can explode with his outside shot, his lack of mobility is killing the Hornets defensively. Wright seems absolutely lost on offense.
Chris Paul and David West are the only threats on offense, and the opposition knows this. If either Paul or West are neutralized, it makes it nearly impossible for the Hornets to have a chance of winning. Expect a trade this year or else the Hornets will be dealing with an unhappy Chris Paul for the foreseeable future.
