Is Restricted Free Agency in Sessions?
Ramon Sessions is awaiting an offer from either the Knicks or the Clippers.
For his sake it better be the Knicks making the offer. A multi dimensional Sessions will flourish in a Mike D’Antoni offense. He will be nothing but a glorified reserve buried in Los Angeles behind Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, and recently acquired Sebastian Telfair. Unless Telfair is part of a rumored sign and trade.
As the door for another guard in L.A. closes, the door in New York is jammed.
Nate Robinson and David Lee hang in contract limbo. Committing to Robinson and or Lee will result in major cap space being obstructed for the 2010 free agent madness.
It would be a shame if New York signs Allen Iverson instead of Sessions.
Iverson is old, and his game and legacy are in decline. His flaws within a team-oriented basketball system were exposed in Detroit. They would do more harm than good in New York or anywhere else for that matter.
Sessions could thrive in New York with his scoring and his passing, and he is a solid perimeter defender. These attributes are valuable assets to an up-tempo offense.
Sessions ranked 9th in the league in assist to turnover ratio. He split time with Luke Ridnour and still was effective, contributing 12.4 points and 5.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 steal per game. These numbers should improve with more minutes in New York.
If you are a Knicks fan, you better be praying for Sessions over AI. Sessions at the mid-level exception would be a great running-mate for LeBron in 2010, not to get to ahead of ourselves.
If he goes to the Clippers, at least I will get to see him play on the cheap.
Worst case scenario, the Bucks match the offer, and Ramon Sessions lives in backcourt/basketball purgatory under the uber-indecisive Scott Skiles.
The night-life isn’t great, but the cost of living in Milwaukee is dramatically less than in New York or L.A.
Just trying to find Sessions a potential silver lining if he happens to come back to Wisconsin.
